International Service
Each day Rotarians pour their passion, integrity, and intelligence into completing projects that have a lasting impact. Rotary bridges cultures and connects continents to champion peace, fight illiteracy and poverty, promote clean water and sanitation, and fight disease.
Through our World Community Service Committee, Yakima Rotary is committed to being a catalyst for projects that build international relationships, improves lives, and create a better world. We achieve our goals through the funding of grants and boots on the ground volunteer work. Our projects have taken us to Honduras, Mexico, Ethiopia, Belize, Cambodia, and many other places. The most recent projects include:
- Therapeutic Playground in Trujillo, Honduras for children with disabilities in partnership with Little Hands Big Hearts Foundation (LHBH) and the local Rotary club in Trujillo. Previous projects in Trujillo included a project to deliver clean water to homes without any running water and the construction of a community bus stop shelter.
- Hospital in Yetebon, Ethiopia. Funds provided hospital equipment, education and training facilities and library, and materials for community outreach education and construction. More than 140 local people including 28 clinical aides, 28 support staff, 6 secretary/clerical personnel, 10 management/supervision specialists and more than 60 women in public health education and disease prevention. One thousand school children participated in health education classes.
- Participation in numerous National Immunization Days in Ethiopia.
- Mobile Library Van and books for community of Tagum City, Philippines.
- Water purification project in Battambang, Cambodia.
- Funding and building of a women’s cooperative workshop in Belize.
We are a BIG club in a small town with a BIG heart doing BIG things locally and around the world!
